Hi, my company is called Delicate Touch Therapies & Therapy School and I am a teacher of complementary therapy and also run a successful therapy salon. I had a career change leaving Retail management and taking a part time job with my local Fire Brigade till I was ready to work full time at my business which was in 2007.
My website aims to give people knowledge about the most common therapies that are available and to give prospective students as much information about the accredited courses/training that I offer. I wanted it to be clear, calming, easy to move from page to page and not too fussy.
I am a complete novice at web design, although I am very comfortable working with the computer, this was a daunting task. I found the 2 most common programs were Dreamweaver and FrontPage. |

I tried both and found that although Dreamweaver seemed to offer more and seemed to be the most widely accepted program, it was the most complicated in that you needed to know about codes. This one caused an awful lot of frustration for me and I was nearly bald trying this one out! I felt it was not for the faint hearted. |

| I turned to FrontPage, and after a few rough moments in the beginning found it very easy to use. No more worries about code etc, I loved the fact you could just write what you needed, insert pictures, tables etc, preview it and then upload. Simple! Here, I had to learn about buttons, banners, hyperlinks and begin using a pdf creator for any attachments such as course prospectus, brochures etc. This made the documents smaller in bitsize and could be viewed by all once fonts were embedded (something else I had to learn about). |

Once this was completed I had to learn how to get it seen on the web. I started with using my own web space with my broadband provider but did not like the fact it didn’t have a www. Address so I had to learn about FTP’s and getting a domain name and find a web host. My first webhost was 123 and stumbled across Compila whilst browsing a forum looking for help with a particular problem. Forums were a great help in my journey and I would advise all to search them out when you get stuck!
Its been a long journey but I am quite pleased with the results so far, and have had a lot of business coming via the website.
Having now joined Compila Exchange have now found a wealth of knowledge that is already helping me shape and change the site. |

I do have a long way to go, learn more about SEO – search engine optimisation, learn about other web design programs that are out there and perhaps take a course at my local college. It can only make my website better, seen by more people and give me great satisfaction that I did it myself!
