That is so true Harvey. As an author and business man, I can relate to how you said "The client will not usually appreciate the time you have spent agonizing over the width of a particular image or navigation bar. Get used to working to your own deadlines". I hope more people discover your blog because you really know what you're talking about. Can't wait to read more from you!

Nice piece of advice. It is always confused as to what should be asked for when it comes to pricing. Its the toughest part of the negotiation process. For this one should be well aware of the market rates and the level of services/designs others are providing to place in a good position to win the contract.

You are quite right. Proper planning is required in every step we take, whether we are designing a website or charge its fees from clients. The solutions you provided are really good. We must know the budget of our clients so that we can work accordingly and both parties are happy and satisfied at the end of the day.

Neat article. Thanks Harvey. I'm getting ready to host and launch a new site and there are jsut so many things to consider. Your article took my stress level down a knotch, it was a good read. You are right, I need to find someone who will be reliable. If the company I host with goes down, my whole site will go down which will NOT be good! Again, thanks Harv! :)

Hi Harvey:

Finally I am back to square one. What follows is a feedback I got from one Danyweb's forum member:

"honestly, your site doesn't look professional at all, but taking into account that you've created it only by reading books and magazines-well done.

I would change the background definitely , probably to some wall paper with nature or something of this kind, add drop-down menues instead of simple links, add some banners to make web site look more professional and attractive. You should also fix windows opening- by clicking on the link always opens a new window- its overloading screen".

I should probably have followed your early advice and have my website checked by your friendly team. I hope it's not to late for me to get your and other team members' feedback; I shall definitely appreciate your comments/criticism.

I definitely have a financial problem on the one hand, but on the other being a Computer Graduate (Associate Diploma Business Computer Systems - Crows Nest TAFE Australia) I decided to have a go at it, in spite of the fact that website design and programming was not in the curriculum. I wanted, and am still in the same mindset, to be in a position to up-grade and renew it myself when needed. Actually this is the right time to get your feedback ( I am a keen learner) as I am actually trying to fine-tune my website's appearance using one of your Fantastico templates (Template Express).I shall keep you briefed on the work-in-progress.

Thanking you and your team for their dedication,

Regards Hervé.

P.s: I am now a member of Compila Exchange but I do not think that I am going to be very active, for now at least, I am trying on my own to get this business up and running at difficult times (World Economic Crisis). But I shall be very happy to contribute by posting some brief but relevant comments every now and then.

I totally agree on your typography point. The fonts used in a design can really make it all come together, and gives a touch of individuality.

Hi Harvey, I'm the Editor of QuickBite magazine which is aimed specifically at fast food businesses and features news around the industry plus key features to help businesses grow.

In the April issue we are focusing on social networking and I've come across your article 'Why Some Small Businesses Often Fail At Social Media Marketing' on this website and wondered if you would agree to me printing it in the April issue?

Of course your name would be credited to the article and if possible, we would like to print your picture too.

Would be great if you could let me know as soon as possible if you would be happy for this to be featured. Our deadline for copy is 15th March. I'd also very much be interested in keeping contact with you should any future relevant articles become available which we can feature within the magazine.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Many thanks and best wishes.

Linda

Hope to speak soon
